Here is a bible study for you. It is about "Hearing God and Being Jesus."
Being Jesus To Our World:
Have you ever said I have never seen Jesus? Perhaps others have said, I would believe in Christ if I could see Him. Maybe a thought exists that says something like, if God really loved me, He would “show up at this time in my life.”
I suggest that we regularly and routinely miss Jesus showing up in our life. In fact, I would say that God is trying to speak to you, guide you, and “show up” in your life every day.
1. Let’s see what the bible says about God speaking to us.
A. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. John 10:27
B. For God speaks in one way, and in two, though man does not perceive it. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men, while they slumber on their beds, then he opens the ears of men and terrifies them with warnings, that he may turn man aside from his deed and conceal pride from a man; he keeps back his soul from the pit, his life from perishing by the sword. Job 33:14-18
C. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. John 16:13
D. Incline your ear, and come to me; hear, that your soul may live; Isa. 55:3a.
E. And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left. Isa. 30:21.
F. Listen and hear my voice; pay attention and hear what I say. Isa. 28:23
G. The Lord Godhas given me the tongue of those who are taught, that I may know how to sustain with a word him who is weary. Morning by morning he awakens; he awakens my ear to hear as those who are taught. Isa. 50:4
2. We can see that God is speaking to us and wants us to simply tune in. How does God speak?
A. We see in Job 33 he speaks to us in dreams. Did you know if you take dreams and visions out of the bible you would take out 1/3 of all scriptures? Just during the birth of Christ in Matthew, we see dreams multiple times as a means of God speaking to his people.
B. We learn in the Gospel of John that God speaks to us by His Holy Spirit.
C. All the above verses teach that God speaks to us by the Holy Scriptures.
D. Begin to confess this truth, “I hear the voice of the Good Shepherd, Jesus.” Don’t go around saying, “God never speaks to me.”
E. God also speaks to us by nature or His creation. The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge. There is no speech, nor are there words, whose voice is not heard. Their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them he has set a tent for the sun, which comes out like a bridegroom leaving his chamber, and, like a strong man, runs its course with joy. Its rising is from the end of the heavens, and its circuit to the end of them, and there is nothing hidden from its heat. Ps. 19:1-6
3. One of the biggest ways that God speaks to us and “shows up in our life” is through one another. That being true, it also shows us why it is so easy to miss Jesus when he passes by, because we don’t expect him to look like us.
A. Mt. 25:39 And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’25:44-45, Then they also will answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?’ Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’
B. In this story we see Jesus saying to people you didn’t know you were doing it to me, but you did it and you blessed me. We see Jesus saying you passed me by, you didn’t help me and it hurt me. Jesus was the lonely, the outcast, etc.
C. Is it possible that the people showing up and doing the good work that demonstrates the heart of Jesus and does the work of Jesus are “being Jesus” to the least of these? Yes, this is true. When we do the works of Jesus and show the love of Jesus, we are being Jesus to whomever it is. God desires to show His son through us.
D. Jesus said, I am the light of the world, (John 8:12), and then He said, you are the light of the world, (Mt. 5:14). How can we be the light of the world? By becoming Jesus to our world.
E. God is in fact showing up in people’s lives through you or he isn’t, just like in the story of Mt. 25.
F. Remember Jesus identifies fully, completely with His bride, His body, the Church. In Acts 9:24, He said to Saul, “Why are you persecuting me?” Saul was persecuting the church, Christians, but Jesus said, you are persecuting ME. That shows how completely Jesus identifies with who you are and who He is in us.
We all want to be Jesus to our world if we have received Jesus as our Savior. Go over these verses and begin to claim them as part of your inheritance in Christ, so you can be what Jesus has made you to be. Remember, it is the work of the Holy Spirit in you, all you are doing when you claim the word of God to be true, is agreeing with God and saying, “Holy Spirit I believe this truth is a reality in me, because of you!”
II Corinthians 5:20, Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.
John 20:21, Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.”
Gal. 2:20, I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Romans 6:4, We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.
